Curious about who we are?  Learn a little more about us.....

Friday, October 12th, Monfalcone, Italy
Here we are in the northern Adriatic, watching the leaves change colors and the temperature drop.  What has gotten into us, you might ask.  We've had a very full agenda since leaving Croatia and I have not written a word about it.  I've come up with a plan to get it all down over the next few days as we travel south towards Greece and hopefully warmer weather.  I'll post three separate updates once we get there, detailing our travels since my last real update on September 16th.

Leaving Croatia on September 23rd, we sailed to Lignano, Italy.  Marina Uno is located a few hundred yards up a river, in the forested, marshy region known as Friuli.  We left the boat there for a few days while we went inland.  An old high school friend from my days at St. Stephen's in Rome, John Dodds, lives in Bergamo with his wife Claudia and daughter (4) Susanna.  We spent a few days marveling at the beauty of Bergamo and the immensity of the cathedral in Milan and enjoying their hospitality and company.

Our trip over to Venice was a cold, rainy motor, but we didn't mind it a bit.  Not only were we going to be able to explore this famously beautiful, ancient city for a whole week, but we were going to do so with our dear friends, Alison and Holly Cunard.  We had an amazing week of walking and dinghying through the streets and canals of Venice, reveling in the sights and catching up with our friends.  We shared the dock with Twice Eleven and made new friends with Mark, Lola, Allegra and Orlando on Dark Horse.  We had dreamed of cruising to Venice for years and we were finally here!

With much sadness we said goodbye to Alison, Holly, our new friends on Dark Horse, and to the unforgettable city of Venice.  We had a date to meet friends in Vienna, Austria, and the weather forecast was only calling for 15 to 20 knots on the nose for the sixty mile trip to Monfalcone where we would leave the boat and catch the train north.  Fortunately, the first 6 hours were a fast easy motor in little to no breeze.  Unfortunately, the last 5 hours saw winds up to 25 or 30 knots, whipping up a really nasty sea, and bringing cold rain with it.  We had the foresight to leave quite early so we did make it to our destination with daylight to spare and not too worse for the wear and tear.  Vienna, Austria was waiting and it was well worth our efforts.  Cruising friends from the amazing trimaran Pi2 who we met in the Bahamas call the city their home.  We had talked about visiting for over a year and just couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Off the overnight train early this morning, back on the boat, cuddling with our poor lonely kitty Hobie, and getting ready to dash off again tomorrow, I'll have plenty of time to write up these experiences while we are underway.  We'll either go all the way to Corfu or stop in Brindisi along the way.  I'm leaning towards stopping (a 375 mile trip from here) but we'll see how it goes.  We should have some good wind, at least for the start of the trip, so that will be a nice change from our last couple of passages.

As always, we are eager to hear all the news from home so take the time to write us an update too!  Have a great weekend.
