December 2nd, Friday - Jost Van Dyke, BVI

With a free wireless connection from Foxy's in Great Harbor on Jost Van Dyke, I figured I could write another update before we move.  Someone spilled a load of diesel in the harbor so it is all of the sudden a much less attractive anchorage.  We are going to move over to Sandy Cay this morning after school to get away from the fumes and dirty water.  What a drag.

Joe's engine repair went smoothly and we made it up here yesterday before sunset.  It took two tries, but we set the anchor next to three other Caribbean 1500 boats here.  We had a sushi party onboard Blueprint Match last night, still eating the tuna we caught on the trip down.  Michele gave me a lesson on making the rolls and I asked my mom to bring out the stuff I need when they come in 10 days so soon I'll be able to make my own.  I'm so excited.  The kids don't like the raw tuna but they both ate up the veggie rolls.  The only cooking you have to do is for the rice, so it is a perfect tropical menu when it is too hot to cook on the boat.  Here the ladies are preparing the ingredients: Michele (Blueprint Match), Pam (Helen Louise) and Teri (Sophisticated Lady).
Joe and Paul Grego (Blueprint Match).

Rick and Teri from Sophisticated Lady and Chuck and Pam from Helen Louise convinced Michele and me to make the run in to check out the infamous Foxy's after dinner.  We left Joe and Paul back on their own boats with the sleeping kids and made the dinghy trip into the bar.  We were just in time to catch the "strutting" contest on the dance floor.  The reggae band played a nice rhythmic tune while the lead singer pulled random guys out of the audience who strutted their stuff on stage.  After judging the dancers by cheers of support, it was the girls' turn.   Luckily, none of us were chosen for the event and we were happy when the whole ordeal was over and we finally got to do a little dancing ourselves!  Most folks there were either locals, or charterers on a week's vacation down here, so the crowd was pretty rowdy.  Our usually early bed time had us all yawning before too long so we made it home by 11:30 without too much damage.

At some point last night, someone spilled a load of diesel fuel into the water.  We got it all over ourselves when we tied up the dinghy at Foxy's and have been smelling it all morning.  We are going to boogie over to Sandy Cay to get away from the stink and get into some good swimming water.  Here are some photos of the beach scene in St. John, just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

I added a link on the link page for some excellent Caribbean 1500 photos taken by Greg on Alacrity.  I included a shot he took of Zia and her crew upon arrival in Tortola.
