What a day! We woke up and the wind was blowing
20 knots. Time to go kiting. Joe and Christy took the dinghy out
to shore which was super close to where we were anchored. I went
for a little kayak ride to meet them where the kiting adventures
began. Shortly after Christy launched, Joe and I met some world
class kiters. They were truly amazing and only a video could
describe their amazingness. Anyway, after watching all of this
kiting action I decided to give it a go. Joe and Christy were
teaching me the basics of flying a kite... I had the 7m going
because Sky's trainer kite was ripped up earlier in the day. Joe
and Christy launched the little kite for me and couldn't have
been better teachers. Well, Joe could have been. I accidentally
caught a huge gust of wind and flew a ways through the air with
Joe hanging onto my back trying to pull me back down. Usually
bringing someone down is considered a party foul or major drag.
I needed this kind of pull me down! So Joe backhanded me in the
process and now we have this joke going about how I've been put
in my place and slapped in the face. All in good fun :) But
watching these kiters jump 15ft easily and land over and over
again was so entertaining. I know Joe and Christy will be there
soon. They've passed the learning curve and hopefully (with
their instruction) I'll be kiting and screaming through the
water with them. Today gave a whole new meaning to "let's go fly
a kite."
