Cassie and Juliana were given a school assignment to write a composition about life on the boat for the web site.

Cassie has been working on writing techniques in fourth grade so we emphasized coming up with a topic and supporting statements and a good conclusion.  We are told to vary our sentence beginnings and use proper punctuation.  Any input on grading will be happily received!

Living on a boat is very different from living on land.  In the night the waves rock me to sleep.  I like the fact that we get to go to different places so often.  School is fun because we get to be with our parents during it.  I miss my old school and all my old teachers and friends.  Before school started on the boat my mom stored my books under my bed.  We have lots of storage on the boat but it is hard to get to because people are often standing on it or sleeping on top of it!  We find many places to play.  We do pull-ups on the bars, jump on the trampoline, and play in the bow locker.  Juliana and I have many games to play while we are sailing.  My sister and I fight sometimes but usually we get along.  I think its awesome to be with my parents 24/7.  My things tell that I am an absolute tomboy and almost never wear dresses.  As you can see there aren't many things I don't like about the boat.

Juliana just recently wrote her first composition in school.  The teaching manual suggested having her fill in the blanks for a story.  "The sun is out.  It is ________ and _______ ."  Instead, she wrote her own paragraph about the sun that you can read on the kids page.  For this "assignment", she sat down in front of the computer and reviewed the pictures from our trip so far.  At first it was going to be a list of ideas for her to write about, but it soon became a narrative of the events that were noteworthy for her.  I left all the spelling mistakes but corrected the punctuation.  She dictated to me a couple of times when her hand got tired so the spelling for part of this work is mine.

Sitting on the ropes.  Favorite place - New York City.  My mom took a picture with two big boats.  Making a huge sand castle.  Visiting a fort made out of boies, wood lost stuff, a hamic, floaters and a flag.  Climing rocks.  Kari walking on the water.  We saw our friedens Sidnye and Aidan.  We made a little fort up in the bow locker.  Jake, Eddie and Max came over for a week.  Evry time we where on land we had lunch at the tavern.  We had an evry day watress.  My parents got 25 bottles of wine.  My mom took a picture of Cassie standing on my shoulders and Eddie's head hanging down.  In Bosten we got a dock rihgt next to the USS Constitution.  We saw them furling the sails.  We went to Seatle to see Gran and Gramps for two weeks without our parents.  We saw Kayla, Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jim.  We went camping.  There was this big huge rushing river with a waterfall.  We made mud pies and stuff like that.  I got a really big cut on my thumb so Uncle Jim put a band aid on it and wrapped it with bandage tape.  We had a lot of with Kayla and her friends came camping too.  It was tons of fun.  Gran and Gramps still have the slip-n-slide I got there on my last visit.  We visted the bunker hill monument. and also visted the pilgirm monument.   We saw 5 whles and a school of dolphins.  In Pprovincetown we fond a sand daller.  In the hall we put down a bunch of pillows and read.  We went to the clam shack and helped make rope.  2 swan came rihgt up to are back step when we whrer down ther too.  My dad has rops that he lets us play with and we made a playgroudout of.  there was a boat, Arabella, a three master, that we saw in Newport and saw it again at Nantucket.  We went to a football game with Tristan in it.  His sister Aria came.  They were creaming them.  Home had 22 and guests, which were the other people, had zero.  We had a lot of fun with those guys.  We saw the Statue of Liberty in New York.  It was very tall and very pretty.  We took a pedi-cab and it was really fun. Because our guy on the bicycle was funny and on the back of the cab there was a sticker that said "Let's party like it's 1989."  We visited the Cloisters and had a lot of fun.  Then we sailed back to Maryland in 2 days without stopping.
